Long-term  measurements in Hornsund (meteorology, glaciology, active layer, environmental chemistry) implemented from seasonal measurements and other observations (geomorphology, biology) create a important database which entitle for synthetic recapitulations in the context of global changes.

Permafrost present but thickness not known.

Year or 12 month interval for mean reported above beginning of August 2005

AIR TEMPERATURE AND SNOW COVER THICKNESS/DENSITY MEASUREMENTS AT THE BOREHOLE SITE (indicate frequency of observations):

Air temperature: Yes [ X] No []    Snow thickness: Yes[X ] No[]   Density: Yes [X ] No[]

NAME AND LOCATION OF CLOSEST CLIMATE STATION (latitude, longitude, and distance from borehole, km) – provide (if available) mean monthly air temperature and snow depth of reporting interval for mean annual ground temperature

POLISH POLAR STATION IN HORNSUND  (77° 00' N, 15° 33' E), place of planned borehole, complete meteorological service
